CHRISTOPHER FARR CLOTH

Christopher Farr Cloth was founded in 2000 as a collaboration between Christopher Farr, Michal Silver and Matthew Bourne. For Christopher Farr and Matthew Bourne, who spearheaded the contemporary rug design movement of the past 30 years, designing fabrics was a natural progression. Drawing on their art backgrounds, Cloth very quickly focused its collection around prints. Together, they discovered an artisanal print house on the outskirts of London that became a laboratory for Cloth experiments and played a central role in the development of the collection. Today the printed textiles continue to be produced in the UK, and the collection comprises prints and weaves and wallpapers. Cloth works with the best contemporary artists and designers – including Kit Kemp, Tord Boontje, Javier Mariscal, Kate Blee, Ilse Crawford, and Commune to create stunning new work whilst also searching the archives of design pioneers of the last century such as Anni Albers, Raoul Dufy and Michael Szell to reintroduce their designs, in a contemporary way for a new audience. As its collection expands, Cloth maintains the same principles of artistic experimentation and a willingness to explore new techniques that have guided its success for more than a decade.
